For a short time (six dates to be exact) I tried the whole online dating thing. I quickly realized it wasn't for me. I developed a theory about the guys who were doing it: They were either 1) promiscuous, 2) completely defective, or 3) uninterested in dating, but wanting to delude themselves into feeling like they were TRYING to meet someone.
This is what seems to be the case with the guy from last week. Who hasn't called, despite our saying we would hang . Also, when I asked him to meet up for a drink this past weekend, sent me a really weird text message. He'd also been hanging out with another friend of ours recently—a great, pretty girl—who he also didn't seem into hanging out with, for no apparent reason. My friend L. says she thinks he just wants to hang out with his BGF, M., all the time.
Oh well, easy come, easy go.
In happier news, my friend F. just moved into the neighborhood. I was telling her about my longstanding crush on the Stephen Malkmus lookalike who lives on my street. We spotted his car, and I left him a note under his windshield wiper:
"I think you are totally cute. XOXO."
I swear I will talk to him this weekend.
Haven't delved into the world of online dating, yet, and your post is one more reason why not to. Blah. A note under the windshield is a nice first start, though. At the very least, you made his day.
